Blanche Polsky Berman died Friday afternoon at the Willard Walker Hospice Home after a week of loving care at that wonderful place. She was born Blanche Polsky in Brooklyn, New York on November 4, 1913, and she was just a month shy of her 99th birthday when she passed. She lived a full, rich life and leaves her two sons, Carl Robert Berman, Jr. of Austin, Texas, his wife, Joyce Gioia Berman; and Eric Allen Berman of Fayetteville, and his wife, Joan Traffas Berman, all of whom were at her bedside when she slipped away. She also leaves a granddaughter and two grandsons, and 6 great grandchildren. Blanche came to Fayetteville three years ago to be closer to family and found an extended, international family and the spiritually rich community of St. Paul's Episcopal Church.

From Carl and Eric:
It should not be necessary to say it out loud, not now, when everything we see—the poetry that moves us, our love of taste and texture, music and the variety of the world—everything is a distillation of your lessons. Your patience with the tiny child’s close-up inspection of the bug or flower, the hours of sun-filled poetry, the stories of talking cows and wise birds, the secure risks of exploring of our little childhood world, and then out into the wider world—we will always know you are with us.
But we will say it: you gave life and you were a constant reminder, through your own passions about the world, that we are blessed to be here and that we should engage life with verve and courage.
Thank you, Mother.
